Two ways up, and they are genuinely different
Nathia Gali sits on the ridge between Murree and Abbottabad, and you can reach it from either side. The Murree approach runs along the top through Bhurban and Ayubia and is the one to take if you want the drive itself to be part of the day — or if you want to combine Murree and the Galiyat in one trip.
The Abbottabad approach uses the Hazara Motorway for most of the distance and climbs at the end. It is the calmer drive, and usually the better call with small children, in poor weather, or when somebody in the car does not enjoy mountain roads.
Book it as a day, not as a drop-off
There is very little transport in the Galiyat once you are there. Ayubia, Dunga Gali, the pipeline walk and Nathia Gali itself are spread along the ridge, and standing at the roadside hoping something passes is not a plan — least of all at dusk with a family.
A day booking keeps one car and one driver with you for all of it: they move with you between stops, hold the bags you do not want on the walk, and take you back down when you are done. It is priced as a single journey, agreed before you set off.

Season matters more here
The Galiyat are higher and quieter than Murree, and they get real snow. In winter, roads on the ridge slow down or close, and the light goes early. We will say so honestly if a day looks like a bad idea, and suggest the Abbottabad approach when it is the safer of the two. In summer this is one of the best days out from the capital — go early, and keep the return time loose.

Yes, and most people do. Book it as a day hire rather than two separate trips: the car and driver stay with you through Ayubia, Dunga Gali and the walk, instead of you finding transport at each point on a hill with very little of it.
Should I book the return?
Strongly recommended. There is far less transport in the Galiyat than in Murree, and evenings come early on the hill. Arranging the way back before you go is the difference between a good day and a stressful end to one.
What about snow in winter?
The Galiyat get heavy snow, and roads up there close or become slow going. We will tell you plainly if conditions make a booking unwise rather than starting a journey that has to turn back. Travel early in the day and keep the return flexible.
