Islamabad to Taxila by Taxi
The shortest of our out-of-town routes and one of the most rewarding: out along the GT Road to Taxila and Wah Cantt, with the fare agreed before you leave and the option of keeping the car for the day.
The heritage day trip
Taxila is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the easiest serious day out from the capital — close enough to leave after breakfast and be back for the evening. The catch is that it is not one site. The museum and the excavated remains are spread across the area, with ordinary road between them and no useful transport waiting at any of them.
That is what makes a day booking the right shape here rather than an upsell: one car and one driver moving with you between stops, with the whole thing priced before you set off. Book a single drop if you only want the museum; book the day if you want the rest.
Wah Cantt and the working corridor
The same road serves a lot of travel that has nothing to do with archaeology — Wah Cantt, Hasan Abdal and the industrial belt along the GT Road. Those bookings want the opposite of a leisurely day: a car at a specific time, a known fare, a driver who has the address, and no negotiation on either end of the trip.
Both are the same booking form. Put in the real address, pick the vehicle, and the price is settled before anyone moves.
- ✔ Half-day and full-day bookings
- ✔ Car stays with you between the sites
- ✔ Wah Cantt and Hasan Abdal covered
- ✔ Airport pickups on the same corridor
- ✔ Fare agreed before departure
Close to the airport
Islamabad International sits on the western edge of the region, which puts it nearer to Taxila than to much of Islamabad. If you are landing and heading straight out this way — or leaving from here — book it with the flight number attached and the pickup follows your actual landing. See the airport taxi page for how that works.
Taxila taxi FAQs
How much is a taxi from Islamabad to Taxila?
Enter your pickup address and where in Taxila you are heading — the museum, one of the excavated sites, or an address in Wah Cantt — and the booking form prices the journey for each vehicle class before you confirm.
Can I book a car for the whole day to see the sites?
Yes, and for the heritage trip it is the only sensible way to do it. The Taxila sites are spread out rather than gathered in one place, so a day booking keeps the car with you between the museum and the ruins instead of leaving you looking for transport in between.
Do you cover Wah Cantt and Hasan Abdal?
Yes — they sit on the same GT Road corridor and are priced the same way. Put the address into the booking form and the fare comes back for that exact trip.
Is this a good day trip from Islamabad?
It is one of the easiest. Taxila is the closest of the routes on this site, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it works comfortably as a half day or a full one depending on how much of it you want to see.
Can you collect from Islamabad International Airport?
Yes. The airport is on the western side of the region, which puts it close to this corridor — a pickup with your flight number attached and a drop in Taxila or Wah Cantt is a single booking.
Is the fare fixed?
Yes, on this route as on every other. The price is agreed before the car sets off and does not change on the day, whether you have booked a single drop or the whole day.
